M4, M8 & M5E Tunnel Periodic Maintenance
M4, M8 & M5E Tunnel Periodic Maintenance
AJM United have been working with Fulton Hogan EGIS for over one year completing pump and pipe overhauls in wet and dry wells across multiple tunnel pits in the M5E, conducting condition assessments on existing tunnel assets, and servicing fire deluge and hydrant pumps in the M4 and M8 tunnels.
Milestones engineered into delivery.
Quantifiable wins from a programme delivered to the highest engineering, safety and environmental standards.
The Challenge.
On arrival, the pump station condition was among the worst witnessed by AJM United in more than 20 years of working with these assets — all components heavily corroded beyond serviceable life, at risk of imminent failure without warning. Guide rods and pipework were so corroded that a standard pump removal attempt risked total station failure. A detailed change-out methodology was required with bypass lines ensuring one pump remained in operation at all times throughout the overhaul.

Scope of Works.
- Wet well pump overhauls (Pits 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 — M5E)
- Supply of new Flygt pumps
- Site measurement & SS316 pipe manufacturing/replacement
- Fire deluge pump and hydrant servicing (M4 & M8)
- Condition assessments on existing tunnel assets
- Emergency call-out response services
- Bypass line installation for continuous operation

Delivered. Safely. On time.
Change-out completed in stages across three road closures with four shifts per closure. All pumps now operating at significantly higher efficiency with no deficiencies recorded. AJM United has since received emergency call-outs to assist with pump failure and installation, reflecting the trust established by Fulton Hogan EGIS in AJM United's capability.
